More About Children

Nancy Louisa married William Taylor 11 November 1858. Tradition is that she was born September 1841 and died 10 September 1869, which is probably correct, but I have found nothing to confirm the dates. Except for the marriage record, we have nothing more on her.

Sons Leroy and Americus died during the years of the war between the states and may have been killed or died of disease while serving in the Confederate army. More data on them is lacking, but they don't seem to have graves in Pine Log Cemetery as do other children who died young.

Note 2: Although it doesn't prove that James Upshaw and wife were parents of Sarah who would have been about two at the time, he was one of few Upshaws found in Georgia in 1820. The others were Huston, Heston, or Haston Upshaw, under 26, Richard Upshaw, William Upshaw, and Leroy Upshaw, all between 26 and 45, John Upshaw, Rebecca Upshaw, and Forrister(??), all aged over 45. Except for James and Richard, none had females younger than ten in the household. James's household included one male under 10 and either three or five females under 10. Richard's household had three females under ten.

Joseph Lowery

Birth and death dates for Joseph L. and Sarah are from their gravestones. Knowledge of the gravestones is from having visited the cemetery many times and having photographed their gravestones and several other gravestones in the cemetery. Val's childhood memories include the mention of Joseph Lowery by Dysart relatives, but none of them were old enough to have known him, and they didn't even know facts about his life except that he had come from North Carolina long ago.
