Although the names of all the children are transcribed as including Jane, the census form shows Jane for only Elisa Jane. Since Emsley Reynolds and wife in 1840 had no children while Anna and Thomas Clayton had 2 sons and 2 daughters, all children older than 10 are probably Claytons. Thomas, 7, was probably Clayton, but he could have been the son of Emsley and his first wife.

The Thomas Clayton in Hamilton County, IN, however, had a woman in the right age range to be Anna. The family also had two daughters, one 5-10 and one under 5, and two sons both under 5. Furthermore, Quaker records show the Anna Clayton who married Emsley Reynolds 1844 in Hamilton Co., IN, to have parents Clayton Moody (yes, Clayton Moody) and Thankful Moody and census records show her birth state as NC.
