Joshua Gore and Sarah McClure

His parents: Thomas L. Gore Sr and Elizabeth Darnell
Her parents: Unknown

An entry in Isaac D. Gore's bible states, "Joshua Gore was born June the 28 1801."

The little that I know about Joshua comes from an entry about his birth in Isaac Gore's bible and an entry about his death in the bible of Thomas Gore Jr. There is also a brief mention in papers of Thomas Jr's grandson that Joshua married a McClure, and federal censuses in Franklin County, TN, in 1850, 1860, and 1870 list Joshua's wife as Sarah. It is quite likely that she was closely related to the other McClures who married Gores in South Carolina and Tennessee, but these relationships are not clear to me.

The censuses of 1850 and 1860 listed Hampton children in Joshua's and Sarah's family, and they were the children of Ginnatha Gore, also listed as Jennetta on the 1870 census, and her husband James Hampton. On the 1860 federal census in Franklin County (page 130), James K P Hampton and Sarah S Hampton were listed in both families, and Jonathan Hampton, who was with Joshua and Sarah in 1850, was with his parents in 1860. There were also several other Hampton children, but they were in only the Hampton family on federal censuses and play no part in tracing Joshua and Sarah.

Joshua Farris was in Joshua's and Sarah's family in both 1850 and 1860. Nancy Gore, for whom I have found no other parents, and Thomas Farris were married in Franklin County. I have not found another Farris family for Joshua, but I have also found no records showing that Joshua's and Sarah's family included a daughter named Nancy nor that Nancy and Thomas Farris had a son named Joshua. I suspect that it would be correct to conclude that Nancy was Joshua's and Sarah's daughter named for his sister Nancy and to conclude further that she named her oldest child for her father, but I must leave it for each to decide.

Joshua and Sarah probably had children in addition to Ginnatha and Nancy, but they don't seem to turn up in records.

The 1870 census reveals that Joshua and Sarah were both living in 1870, but Joshua died not too long afterward. An entry in Thomas Gore Jr's bible states, "Joshua Gore died Monday February 2nd 1873. Age 70." I have found no record of Sarah's death.
