His parents: John Gore and Jane Dodd
Her parents: Unknown
Joshua lived most, if not all, of his adult life in Union County; however, I and others have not found him them on the 1790 census. Although it is unlikely, he was possibly in adjacent Chester County in 1790 when he doesn't appear on the federal census in Union County. Since some unverified sources report that he and his wife Frances are buried in Chester County, that may have been Frances's home. The Joshua Gore household found there in 1790 does not seem to have the composition a recently married couple would have since it has seven females, but I have no other evidence that the Chester County Joshua was not the son of John and Jane.
Joshua's will, written in November 1841 and probated in Union County in April 1845, is somewhat confusing, but, in it, he named his wife and their children. The children in order named in the will were Ralph and Williams G., Katherine, Hannah, Sarah, Elizabeth, Thomas, Joshua, Rebecca, and Frances. I'm unsure if the order named has any relationship to the order of birth. Joshua appointed sons Ralph and Williams G. as executors.
Her father left $600 dollars for Ralph and Williams to use for Katherine's support, much more than he left any other child. but I have found no reason for this difference.
Several on-line genealogists have seemingly equated the Union County Joshua Gore with a Joshua Gore who appeared in Quaker records in Loudon County, VA, but I believe this is incorrect. The Quaker records run from 1754 (only as Gore married to Elizabeth Clowes) through 1808; however, Elizabeth Clowes and her Joshua lived and died in VA. The Joshua Gorelisted in the Quaker record in 1808 may be the son of Elizabeth and the older Joshua, or may be the son of Sarah Clowes and her Gore husband.
