In 1790 Federal Census for Spartanburg SC, James and wife? have 2 males 16-25 and 1 female living with them. It could be 2 sons and 1 daughter, 2 sons and a spouse of a son, or a son plus a daughter and her spouse .
In 1800, besides a male and female, each over 45, there was a male 25-44, a female 16-24, and a female under 10. One male is gone, they have added a young female. James was about 65 in 1790, and his wife was over 55. The young female is perhaps a granddaughter. Matthew and William went to Logan County KY between 1790 and 1792 and are not here.

1800 Federal Census, Spartanburg County, SC, p. 179: ALEXANDER James 00011---10101----00 <10, 10-16, 16-26, 26-45, >45 Sr: male at least 26 and <45 is ??; female at least 16 and <26 is ??; female <10 is ??. Apparently one of the children, his or her spouse, and their daughter lived with James Sr.
