The Dysarts of Burke (later McDowell) County, NC, and Bartow County, GA descend from Margaret Stewart and James Dysart, who was killed in a Revolutionary War battle in NC along with his son William. Val's ancestor Samuel (James Dysart's grandson) married Nancy Alexander, daughter of Joseph Lowery Alexander and Margaret Tate.

Val's Grizzles came, probably from VA, to NC and, from there, to Lumpkin County, GA, then Bartow County and Cobb County, GA. These Grizzles descend from William and Celia Grizzle. William's father was almost surely John Henry Grizzle from VA and Rutherford County, NC.

Val's Alexanders are from the families of Joseph Lowery Alexander, whose daughter Nancy was Val's several-times great grandmother, and the unrelated family of Joseph Alexander, born 1808 in NC. The migration of the family of Joseph (1808) from SC to northern GA followed the same path at about the same time as that of Val's Dysart ancestor and some of the other Alexander family, and we believed, for a while, that the families were the same; however, they seem not be related, based on DNA evidence.
